POSITION DESCRIPTION

World Food Program USA, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, proudly supports the mission of the United Nations World Food Programme by mobilizing American policymakers, businesses and individuals to advance the global movement to end hunger. Our leadership and support help to bolster an enduring American legacy of feeding families in need around the world.

This position will lead a multi-channel effort to grow and sustain the organization’s programs for mid-level donors and below, and monthly donor programs. The Director of Philanthropy will develop and drive a comprehensive program to acquire, cultivate, solicit and steward donors giving <$10,000 annually, including monthly donors. This multi-channel program currently includes email and direct mail fundraising and personal engagement.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Donor Strategy

  • Commit to a donor-centric framework that honors the donor journey from first to the ultimate gift and the many ways donors engage with and support WFP USA
  • Lead the World Food Program USA’s development department functions for mid-level donor programs and below, including mid-level donor cultivation, stewardship, direct mail, email, and the use of other technologies
  • Develop and execute strategies across channels to acquire new donors, retain and upgrade current donors, and build a strong pipeline for mid-level and major donors
  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals

Finance and Operations

  • Prepare and oversee the annual budget for assigned donor programs
  • Set annual fundraising goals in coordination with Senior Director, Philanthropy
  • Manage relationships with vendors and other outside consultants
  • Maintain sharp focus on return on investment and efficiency

Collaboration

  • Work with colleagues in Marketing and Communications to ensure alignment of digital strategies and consistency of branding and messaging
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Marketing and Communications and Development Support to develop surround sound cultivation and stewardship strategies for donors, including the implementation of key touchpoints on social media, web, mobile and developing platforms
  • Support collaboration with major gifts team to move donors through the donor pipeline

Team Management

  • Manage a team of professionals responsible for direct mail and email fundraising and personalized donor engagement
  • Develop the capacity of the team and support their career development
  • Provide the team with information, tools and resources to improve performance, reach goals, and test new approaches
  • Communicate clear expectations and provide constructive feedback

Other

  • Become knowledgeable about WFP USA’s program areas and priorities
  • Undertake special projects and other responsibilities as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for our shared vision of creating a world with zero hunger preferred
  • 5 years minimum of experience in low dollar and/or mid-level fundraising, either in-house or at an agency servicing this sector
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills; ability to lead and collaborate effectively in a team-focused environment
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and execute complex projects
  • Bachelors degree in marketing, communications or related field
  • Experience leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams that include digital specialists
