EMERGENCY IN GAZA & THE WEST BANK
Families urgently need food. WFP is on the ground right now providing emergency food supplies to civilians who’ve been impacted by the sudden escalation of conflict.
A HUMANITARIAN CATASTROPHE
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is horrifying. By the time famine is declared, it will be too late. People are already dying of hunger.
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) immediately launched emergency operations to provide families with urgently needed food assistance. Despite immense challenges and security risks, WFP continues to provide food and cash to more than 1 million people in the region.

Gazans in the north are tasting bread for the first time in over six months after WFP supplied four bakeries with fuel enough for 4-5 days and wheat flour. Across Gaza, WFP now supports 16 bakeries with wheat flour, yeast, salt, sugar and fuel.
To continue supporting these bakeries, WFP needs safe, sustained and scaled-up access to deliver a regular supply of aid.

A new Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report confirms that the entire population of Gaza is in crisis or worse levels of acute hunger, and there is a risk of famine unless access to adequate food, clean water, health and sanitation services is restored. The IPC report also finds that a quarter of Gaza’s population – more than half a million people – are starving.

Immediately following the attacks on October 7 and the ensuing escalation of the conflict, WFP begins providing emergency food assistance to people in shelters in Gaza. With the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), WFP starts distributing fresh bread and canned food to around 73,000 people in shelters.
Hunger was already alarmingly high before the conflict intensified, with one third of people in Gaza and the West Bank – 1.8 million – experiencing food insecurity.
HOW WE’RE HELPING FAMILIES
The U.N. World Food Programme has worked in Gaza for decades. Our assistance is critical to averting the further deterioration of this dire humanitarian crisis.
We continue to provide over 1 million people with food assistance in Gaza and the West Bank. However, safe access is becoming harder and harder. Humanitarian workers, facing displacement, movement restrictions and constant shelling, continue efforts to deliver food.
What’s Happening in Gaza?
We are providing food assistance as quickly as we can to women, children and families impacted by the conflict. Please help send food today.
