WASHINGTON, DC (June 10, 2020) – World Food Program USA (WFP USA) has named Rebecca Middleton, executive director of the Alliance to End Hunger, as its new vice president of public policy and advocacy. In support of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Middleton will officially join World Food Program USA on July 6 to lead its advocacy and policy operations, including serving as its Congressional liaison. In this capacity, Middleton will drive advocacy initiatives, advance food security policy and legislation, and develop key partnerships and coalitions within the food security community.

“I am thrilled to welcome Rebecca to World Food Program USA’s senior management team,” said Barron Segar, president and CEO of World Food Program USA. “She brings both a deep commitment to anti-hunger initiatives, as well as extensive advocacy expertise that will be critical as we continue our zero hunger fight on behalf of the world’s most vulnerable people.”

Middleton brings over 20 years of experience in policy, advocacy and strategy to her role at World Food Program USA. “I’m incredibly honored to join World Food Program USA at this critical time,” said Middleton. “This work literally saves hundreds of thousands of lives around the world every year. I’m humbled to be a part this amazing team and look forward to working with our partners on and off Capitol Hill to continue the strong tradition of U.S. leadership and support for this most vital humanitarian work.”

Middleton joined the Alliance to End Hunger in 2013—first serving as its chief operating officer and then as executive director since 2016. She was responsible for implementing the Alliance’s vision of bringing together diverse organizations to build the public and political will to end hunger. Prior to the Alliance, Middleton spent more than a decade in government relations at Cassidy & Associates, where she developed and executed federal advocacy strategies on behalf of corporate and non-profit clients. Previously, Middleton was a senior legislative assistant for Representative Frank R. Wolf (R-VA).

Middleton earned her B.A. in political science and English from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
