World Food Program USA is looking for a dynamic and seasoned Director, Institutional Partnerships. We are seeking an individual interested in global humanitarian causes and experienced in building impactful partnerships. Reporting to the Senior Director, Institutional Partnerships, this position will be responsible for identification, cultivation, and solicitations of new partnerships, as well as implementation of the team strategy. This position and the wider team play a key role in supporting World Food Program USA’s ambitious growth goals for greater impact to support the mission and programs of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

Highlighted Responsibilities:

  • Identification of new institutional, Foundation, faith-based and grantmaking partnership prospects strongly aligned with the mission of the United Nations World Food Programme.
  • Stewardship and management of high-value partnership concepts and engagement approaches, in close collaboration with Senior Director, Institutional Partnerships and the Senior Managers on the Institutional Partnerships team.
  • Review and develop compelling grant proposals and reports in close liaison with WFP staff and regional bureaus.
  • Set annual fundraising goals in coordination with Senior Director, Institutional Partnerships.
  • Planning and execution of cultivation and solicitation strategies with a portfolio of strategic prospects with a goal of securing new large scale partnership opportunities.
  • Skillful onboarding of new partners to ensure successful transition to a managed partnership.

Day-to-Day Activities will include but are not limited to:

  • Collaboration with WFP’s Rome based Foundation partnerships counterparts and technical units to develop prospect engagement strategies and partnership proposals.
  • Collaboration with colleagues in Marketing and Communications and Development Support to develop/implement cultivation and stewardship strategies for donors, including the implementation of a thought leadership strategy and outreach/visibility at key virtual and physical platforms.   • Supporting the management of a team of professionals responsible for new business fundraising and personalized current account management.
  • Developing the capacity of the team and supporting team member career development through information, tools and resources to improve performance, reach goals, and test/learn new approaches.


A well-qualified candidate will possess the following:

  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience executing successful Foundation and grantmaking partnerships, or other relevant experience
  • Proven track record of securing seven-figure partnerships, including philanthropy, complex grants and (multi-donor)technical collaborations.
  • Proven track record of successful strategy planning and implementation and a demonstrated ability to lead and manage workflow processes
  • Strong understanding of the nonprofit sector, and familiarity with best practices and techniques of fundraising, grantmaking and bespoke partnership management
  • Strong understanding of the philanthropy sector and knowledge of current trends in the philanthropic landscape.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strategic thinking
  • Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience with Salesforce or other CRMs
