World Food Program USA Appoints Governor Christine Todd Whitman to Its Board of Directors
WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 14, 2023) – World Food Program USA has named Christine Todd Whitman, president of The Whitman Strategy Group, former Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and former governor of New Jersey, to its distinguished Board of Directors. A leader in sustainable business, environmental protection and solutions-oriented policymaking, she is well positioned to support World Food Program USA during a time of unprecedented need.

A distinguished leader and visionary, the Governor will be integral as we work to make global food security a top priority for private sector partners, policymakers and the American public,” said Tony Fratto, World Food Program USA Board Chair. “Her environmental advocacy aligns well with our mission to mitigate the impact of climate change on global hunger and build resilience in vulnerable communities.”
Governor Whitman served in the cabinet of President George W. Bush as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency from January of 2001 until June of 2003. She was the 50th governor of the State of New Jersey, serving as its first woman governor from 1994 until 2001. In her current role as president of The Whitman Strategy Group, she has been at the forefront of helping companies find innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
“There is no greater human need than sustenance, so I am proud to lend my skills and experience to their mission of ending hunger in this country and around the world,” said Whitman.
As governor, Whitman earned praise from both Republicans and Democrats for her commitment to preserve a record amount of New Jersey land as permanent green space. She was also recognized by the Natural Resources Defense Council as having instituted the most comprehensive beach monitoring system in the nation. As EPA Administrator, she promoted common-sense environmental improvements, such as watershed-based water protection policies, and implemented landmark legislation to promote the redevelopment and reuse of “brownfields” or previously contaminated industrial sites. In 2018, Governor Whitman received the Panetta Institute’s Jefferson-Lincoln Award. Governor Whitman was awarded The Eisenhower Medal for Leadership and Service in 2017.
